Polka Dot First Birthday Plates And Napkins

My Blueberry Nights

Hong Kong / China / France 2007

DIRECTOR

Kar Wai Wong

INTERPRETERS

Jude Law, Norah Jones, David Strathairn and Rachel Weisz

SCREENPLAY

Kar Wai Wong and Lawrence Block

"My Blueberry Nights" (bad title Italian for "My Blueberry Night") is a film by Wong Kar Wai. It is clear from the dialogue, voice over, almost violent comic-book colors, from the fact that people love each other almost without touching, slow sped up by those who have brought fame to the director of "Lost Angels". But "My Blueberry Nights" is also a film that wants to export the personal style of Wong Kar Wai in the West and does not have the courage to dare as perhaps had been a disappointing "2046." The story is always the same and a sense of deja vu is high when in another place is revived with the necessary variations to the second story of "Hong Kong Express". Except that there are no Chinese players, but far more enjoyable Jude Law and Norah Jones, but the director is able to make us interested in the story thanks to his famous dialogues in his eye and the inner film is never banal. So the first 50 minutes faster flee, every fan of the director will be exalted in the vision of a story as orchestrated masterpieces past Paul Auster in touch with the script, but then the disaster happens. It is because "My Blueberry Nights" becomes a meeting with Nathalie Portman obsessed with a video game expanded, a hymn surface aesthetics of beautiful images, like a porno without sex by Michael Ninn. Here's the story loses interest and forget about to get a likeness of Maggie Cheung by Raquel Weltz or another cop in love with anything like so many protagonists wongkarwaiani. The movie becomes a deadly tedium, irritating, snobbish, a vacuum to make a pathetic attempt to celebrate even a poetry with a certain weariness of interesting ideas. Too bad because the cast (except Portman) is perfect and after reading so many bad and foolish criticism of the film. We give three bullets anyway because it is a film that knows how to excite and offers a hybrid of the most interesting works of the period, but it is certain that by Wong Kar Wai film is expected to noiosetto discreet and not a simple task. The question, however, that if he was played by Tony Leng and Faye would not have had so many negative reviews, in fact, is very high. Racism in reverse?

DO NOT THINK

not Think

Italy 2008

DIRECTOR

Gianni Zanasi

INTERPRETERS

Valerio Mastandrea, Anita Caprioli and Giuseppe Battiston

SCREENPLAY

Gianni Zanasi and Michele Pellegrini

Stefano Cardini (Valerio Mastandrea) moved to Rome with big dreams of breaking into the music but finished as a guitarist in a small punk band, returns home to his family in Emilia. Waiting for him there are two parents, his sister, who has left school and worked at the water park, and his brother, owner of the family company, now bankrupt, cherries in syrup. Do not think the title refers to the warning made to the players who are asked to "not thinking about problems because with time things will settle themselves. " Utopian theory or at least superficial ditching a film that, more unique than rare in Italy, is well written and well acted. Gianni Zanasi is not a phenomenon, nor has significant stylistic leaps, but it is clever and smart. He knows that to tell the neuroses Italians do not need some kind soul thrillerone (cited). Lightness is the only human knowledge. Encumber the film is like serving coffee and peppers for breakfast, needless to say, which will remain in the stomach. If you use this theorem (the end is the same as all fall down and speed are known to be two of the best Italian films in this gray period) are unlikely to be wrong film. Even if morality is not the most amazing and the story has not developed and the film will still laugh. Millions of people with a smile on his face unconscious in knowing that the full significance of not thinking is not very different from Ozpetek or his representative. If we are right, if the "tick" Italians are seriously, if there really is a class above can judge it is not known. The trust / mistrust among the people is not a matter of debate. Better to laugh, go!

Oxford Murders - A THEOREM OF CRIME

Oxford Murders

Spain / France 2008

DIRECTOR

Alex De La Iglesia

INTERPRETERS

Elijah Wood, John Hurt, Leonor Waitling, Julie Cox

SCREENPLAY

Alex De La Iglesia, Jorge Guerricaechevarría, Guillermo Martínez

who is not accustomed to the films of De la Iglesia might think, looking at Oxford Murders, the film is a mad megalomaniac. Who knows in its production is assured. Oxford Murders has two records for Alex De La Iglesia, linked to each other. Except Perdita Durango, which more than a film is an otherworldly experience, this is the first work to breath International Trade (mixed production, international actors, locations, UK) and the first very bad film of his career. Or at least if we consider bad oestrus grotesque that you breathed in his earlier works, even in the warm as 800 Balas, where irony and cynicism were the director of the Iberian soft one of the most open in Europe. The film pursues the desire of the director of classicism, which in recent favorite films had a structure inspired by the old retro yellow. What makes this film definitely attributable to the footprint of Iglesia De La Soul was their irreverent, delirious. This ends the last work, the very soul of English, a sort of classic Cluedo in which the characters move in an intricate to resolve the issue. Very likely this is a hustler of the director, have also opened the doors to Hollywood. Not that the lack of interesting ideas in the film but what you miss is precisely the kind of personality and a clock off too easily carried away.

GONE, BABY, GONE

Gone, Baby, Gone

USA 2008

DIRECTOR

Ben Affleck

INTERPRETERS

Casey Affleck, Amy Ryan, Michelle Monhagan, Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman

SCREENPLAY

Ben Affleck, Aaron Stockard

E 'of the film "Who would have thought." So we say it. Despite all the jokes about the qualities of Ben Affleck as an actor, it must be admitted that the boy has other considerable talents as a producer (Feast is his work) and also as director apparently. The team that orchestra in Gone, Baby, Gone has really made the center, without a shot being fired. This is because his first short, I Killed My Lesbian Wife, Hung Her on a Meat Hook, and Now I Have a Three-Picture Deal at Disney, was an ingenious but immature, as well as the other two films he directed and which will never see. Today, Ben knows the choices and weigh up to Gone, Baby, Gone is truly apt. We are from parts of the neo-noir drama, of what people like Clint Eastwood or Sean Penn, the writer is not for nothing is the same as Mystic River. the story of a young girl's disappearance and that the search along with the detective police force. The dark house of Dennis Lehane, is a novel linear, where the elements are all in place, because this story is not without its moments of deja vu but if you have the patience to look at the whole picture we are faced with a ' work may have some moral issue. It 's a journey narrative apparently uncertain, almost jerky, to Gone, Baby, Gone, alternating periods of tension in human thinking. This film is about how there are things that sometimes are made, going against the ethics, the common thought. It 's a journey back in morale, which leads to be progressive so that they can learn to choose the road less progressive. Realize that sometimes the solution is precisely the wrong one. Because it's a wrong world. Great test of actors, all Casey Affleck confirms his talent but there are Amy Ryan, Michelle Monhagan, Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman. We advise you to discover why the film was released in England only after seeing him.
