The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is one of those titles usually creates curiosity in the time it leaves the anonymity or semi-anonymity of the independent comes to be compared to big-name star systen with nominations and awards left and right. And 'natural that something good must necessarily be. In fact, the story of Jean Dominique Bauby's autobiographical novel is the classic pigeon's egg if it were not true. The man, a former managing editor of one of the best selling fashion magazines in France, suffered a stroke trying to overcome depression by writing, or rather dictating the book with the only way they can communicate, or banging his left eye. Daniel Day Lewis had the foot and Jean Gd only his eye. Unlike the film by Julian Schnabel here looking for a point of view, less dramatic and more significantly for human situation. Of course, the protagonist's situation is extremely tough but the strength of man is to succeed, however, even in desperation, to take it with humor and not to indulge himself. Jean Do, a person tendenzialmentre surface neither more nor less than anyone else, is really beginning to understand the meaning of life and weight to their existence. It may seem trivial, and indeed it is. The film is incredibly naive and banal, but somehow very pure, sincere, universal. Being able to rip the laughter in a dramatic situation is definitely a tendency for the film, as is done to reflect on the value of life. Schnabel directs in the only way possible, or in soggetttiva of the protagonist, and through his imagination. It is not, in all sincerity, that masterpiece which is spoken but it is a film that at least once in their life to be seen to cleanse his soul. Not cheap.
